Astrology

Moon, Stars, Moon and stars, Night sky, space, cosmos, universeI find it increasingly confusing, and wonderfully curious why people today still believe in the fantasy of astrology, and believing that we are somehow controlled and destined by the stars so far away. And its not as if it is a small operation of a few people performing and making up stories based on cold reading divination. No, astrology and star signs are in magazines, newspapers, on key-rings, on the internet and on certain television stations. How, in all that is logical, is this industry still going? How are people still buying into the practise of believing that their lives and personalities are dictated by the stars?

Who is God?

god in rays, clouds of godI have been thinking for a while about writing this post, but have had obstacles in the way of writing. These obstacles aren’t to do with this, it was obstacles like holidays, work, and the other things we have to do in our lives. I have decided to write this as a prequel  to my philosophical paper. I have mentioned before about this paper, but to restate,  it is an explanation to what is life. But in it I have to tackle God and or gods. You can’t answer life without tackling this most audacious of hurdles. I have outlined the idea of gods and religion before in previous posts, and why I think they are unnecessary. I have questioned religious authority outside this blog, and am frequently thinking on new ways of getting people to look at the facts.

Aliens Among Us: Universally Speaking.

Et, E.T., Extra terrestrial, alien, UFOIt has been a fairly long time since I have written about the wonders of space. Since a small child the cosmos has fascinated me, and the vast expanse of the universe keeps my brain active and entertained to this day. The universe to me is a wonder of what nature and evolution can do. The sheer expanse of space-time is mind-boggling. To think the milky way, the little galaxy we live in, is 100,000 light years across is just a number so huge that the mind struggles to imagine its scale. And when you think that the milky way contains over 100 billion stars to potentially 300 billion stars, the brain stars to fuzz and frazzle, considering each one of those stars are the same size, and many more are larger, than the sun.

And to think that our star just sits in one of the arms of the milky way galaxy, being orbited by all 9 planets (pluto is still a planet to me). And our sun is just one of billions of stars in the milky way. And the earth also being just one of billions of planets in the milky way as well. ANd pushing even further out, the milky way, our home galaxy is just one of millions of billions in the universe. Now how many stars is that again? So what I’m trying to show is that the universe is big, and when i say big, i mean monstrously large, that the human mind soon crumbles at the size of the universe (and that’s just the universe we can see). So what about life? If the universe is big, what about the numbers for life?

Children of the Cosmos

In many T.V. guides and in almost all girls weekly magazines there is always a section to do with horoscopes. What baffles me, is that people still believe that we are in some way connected in a spiritual way to the stars. The absurd things people grapple onto. What i find disheartening about these columns in magazines, is that it doesn’t reveal the true wonder of a stars connection to us. These horoscopes impose some extraordinary consequences of being born in a certain month, and being ruled under a certain star. The sad fallacy of it is, the star-signs that are used, have actually shifted from their original creation.

Star signs were generated by seeing which constellation the sun passed through on the day of your birth. However, since these first star signs were invented, the earth has shifted a bit, the moon has rocked a bit further out, and the stars are all slightly shifting to. So actually, the star sign you think you are is not correct, as the constellation has moved in the night sky. But the problem with star signs is that firstly they hold no real truth, and secondly, they do not show the real profound nature of our connection to the stars.

Don’t Touch That

Throughout life we are told what to do, and what not to do, even on tiny trivial things. One of the main things we are told as children, and also more subtly in adulthood is, ‘do not touch things.’ Every parent, teacher or general authoritative adult (who isn’t) has told a child not to touch something. That something could be the cooker, the fire or a prickly plant. And there is good reason to say, ‘do not touch these things,’ as they will hurt, which every child finds out, as they touch it anyway. However, what if i told you, you have never touched anything in your life, would you believe me? Well the answer should be ‘Yes, I do believe you.’

The Race for Space

Earth is quite big, actually to us, it’s very big. Our planet holds all 6 Billion of us, and the countless Trillions of animals, plants and fungi that thrive on the Earth. For some people the size of the Earth is so big, that they cant quite grasp it, in a sense that they cant see how something so big can exist, when in comparison, we are minutely small, let alone small birds and bacteria. Regardless how big this amazing planet is, it wont be here forever. Unfortunately I don’t know when the end will come, I’m no soothsayer, not that they’d know either. The reason I don’t know, is surprisingly simple, the end, is multiple.
